Here we are in the dead of winter, and I thought I’d bring thoughts of warm weather to the blog. Today it’s Mexico!

There’s nothing like a destination wedding to bring out the creativity. Chris and Kelly were married in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, and it was great fun.

We pulled out all the stops, beginning with a super-sexy boudoir session several weeks before the trip. We produced a book for her to give her groom down in Mexico.

Actually, it was a series of three sessions in four locations. The book was amazing! He loved it. And she appreciated the work we did together. We were practically best friends by the time we got to the wedding.

The wedding was at Secrets Maroma Beach, which is part of the Riviera Maya. This resort is absolutely gorgeous. I might add the chocolate chip cookies they had in the lobby were amazing!

The wedding was on the beach, naturally. The Caribbean really is as blue as you see in pictures. Maybe bluer. We had a lot of fun doing group shots in the water. It was a fun and relaxed wedding.

The next day we went to a cenote, which is a sort of sinkhole with crystal-clear water that is connected to underground aquifers. We took some gorgeous underwater photos in her dress. This is my kind of “trash the dress” shoot!

Terrence and I went downtown for some new portfolio shots. He’s modeled for Claiborne and other well-know firms, so he’s a natural at posing! We were in the West Bottoms at sunset, one of my favorite places for portraits.

While photojournalism indeed has its time and place for most of a wedding day, don’t overlook the importance of a traditional posed portrait of you and your beloved.  This is the image that Mom and Grandma will want prints of, the one that Dad wants for his desk, the one that you’ll want enlarged and displayed proudly in your home.

Though most of our coverage is candid, and we also respect this traditional portrait and use tried and true photography techniques (for example, studio lighting where appropriate) to create a beautiful image of you and your beloved.

Rather than a quick ‘cheese’ break we’ll work with you before the big day to assure there’s enough time for those portraits.  We can take as many or as few as you like.  Some couples stick with portraits of just themselves, others prefer family groups.  Either way, portrait time doesn’t take long at all – we work efficiently and our couples are usually pleased to be finished with pictures in time to join their guests for cocktail hour.

J&J are the type of couple that makes you remember that puppy love feeling. It’s so easy to lose it and become “grown ups”, forgetting that without puppy love not much else happens for the long term. :-) Embrace it, like J&J have. Make it part of your long term. Bat those lashes, smile sweetly at your beloved and keep those sparks flying!

This will probably take the cake on biggest, loudest getaway vehicle I’ve seen in 09.  I’d never been in one of these before.  So cool!

When the holidays fall during the cold months, and families that are normally scattered come together, we’re never sure how the weather will hold up for holiday portraits. As photographers we stay optimistic and enjoy shooting in all types of lighting and weather situations. It’s about adaptation and creativity.

For a recent family portrait session, we were fortunate enough to have not only beautiful weather, but grass that was still green and lush. This made for an unusual color combination outside, and the neutral outfits with colorful scarves made everything pop!
